TARTA MONSTER HIGH DE FRESAS Y NATA/ STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM MONSTER HIGH CAKE

Dejamos enfriar.

Calorías por ración: Realmente no queréis saberlo, ¿verdad?

RELLENO Y FROSTING

-250gr de fresas frescas
-400ml de nata vegetal para montar bien fría
-60gr de azúcar glas
-Colorante alimentario rosa

besos a tod... mis 2 o 3 lectores ;)

STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM MONSTER HIGH CAKE

Everyone with 5 to 9,10?,11? year old girls around would already know monster high dolls, for those who don't, you may not be very interested but they are successful dolls inspired by horror movies; little zombies, vampires and wolverines attending high school like everyone else. Yes, they're awful, but to be honest, given the stereotype of the former barbies, I prefer these little monsters.

Recently, my friend Raquel asked me to make a cake for her daughter and niece's birthday. The only requirement: it had to be about monster high, so I got a big batch of pink coloring and made a strawberry and cream cake with some matching cupcakes.

I used the same recipe to make the cupcakes and frosting. Here in Valencia, it's hard to find some of the ingredients, I'm planning to write a post about the shops I've found here.

BASIC VANILLA SPONGE CAKE

Ingredients: (yields a 8" cake and 12 cupcakes)

-4 eggs
-500gr grounded sugar
-500gr all purpose flour
-250ml oil
-250ml milk
-16gr baking powder
-1tsp of vanilla extract (I used nielsen massey's)

Directions:

Pre-heat the owen to 180º

In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients except flour with an electric mixer, food processor or hand whisk

Add the flour and mix until everything is well integrated. Cover with a cloth and let it raise for 30 minutes, if we bake it right away, the batter won't raise enough. (note: baking powder is just meant to be used for cooking purposes XD)

Pour the batter in your cake pan and scoop the rest of the batter in your cupcake liners.

Bake for 30 minutes or until the center of the cake and cupcakes has just set. (I recommend to use a skewer to check).

Calories per serving: you don't really want to know, do you?

FILLING AND FROSTING

-250gr fresh strawberries
-400ml cold cream (I used vegetal mix)
-60gr powdered sugar
-pink food coloring
-cream stabiliser (optional)

I used vegetal mix as the high summer temperatures in Valencia would have ruined the regular cream but you can also use it, as long as you whip it very very cool

Whip the cream together with the powdered sugar and cream stabiliser using an electric mixer. Vegetal mix has the advantage of being very stable and even though the taste is a bit different, the pluses outweigh the drawbacks and I prefer stable and firm frosting in summer

Once the cream is whipped, add the coloring and mix until it's well integrated.

In the pictures you can see how I assembled the cake, a layer of cream and the strawberries on top. I removed the core of the cupcakes with a cupcake plunger and filled them with strawberries. I used the 1M tip to make the roses

Finally, I used strawberry marmalade as "glue" and covered the cake with pink fondant and zebra stripes. The skull and letters are also made of fondant. I hope you've enjoyed the post because it has taken me 3 hours...
When it comes to computers, I'm a complete disaster.

kisses for everyon....my 2 or 3 readers :)

FINALLY, WRITING IN THE BLOG

After so many months sleeping on it, I´ve finally decided to give it a try and post all my recipes, pictures and evidences of my baking addiction. As I was covering my family and friends' facebook walls and whatsapp chats with tons of pictures of cakes, I thought that the best thing would be to start a blog to share all my cooking experiences and thanks to my sister´s computer and design skills, I've finally started delving in this experience. Thanks a lot Helena!!

In this blog, you'll find all kinds of recipes, but mostly, you'll see cakes, cupcakes, buns, pastries and everything related to sugar. I promise to include "less" fat versions. As I'm not a professional cake designer I apologize in advance for all the things published here. Of course, all the recipes and photos posted here will be mine unless otherwise credited.

The aim of this blog is sharing my enthusiasm for baking and cooking, exchanging impressions and experiences with sense of humour,  in a simple, unpretentious way. Even though I'm an avid reader, I haven't written a blog before and I have no experience whatsoever in cooking blogs, therefore, my recipes and pictures will be miles away from the ones in professional blogs.

It has taken some time as I felt unable to start a blog, taking just a glance at some of the most amazing cooking websites and blogs, who would want to read mine?, anyway, if I don't get more than 2 readers, at least I will have all my recipes out of the grubby notebook I take everywhere...
All my posts will be somehow trifling. I don't have 253.767 covers or cake stands matching every cake I make, nor a decent camera and definitely, I don't have the gift of good writing, but I'll try to do my best and if I don't have any readers, at least my mum and sisters will have a blog just for themselves, hehe.

Due to my professional "weakness" (I'm an English philologist), and the fact that I read most of the information and websites about baking in this language, I would like to share my posts both in Spanish and English.

Thank you for dropping by, I hope you get to try one of my recipes and don't hesitate to comment or ask about anything.
